Women in Policing — International Women’s Day 2026

In the Tactical Operation Section (TOS), precision is everything. For Constable Salvation Ellen Fetalaiga, a 28-year-old mother and tactical specialist, that precision is fueled by two things: an unbreakable spirit and an unwavering faith in God.
Constable Fetalaiga’s journey began on May 6, 2019, when she entered the grueling 17-week police recruitment course at just 21 years old. Since then, her career has been a roadmap of diverse service.
Her most daunting challenge came when she stepped into TOS just six months after giving birth to her son. “I had to work myself to the core to meet the elite physical standards. I had to prove that a mother’s strength is second to none.”
Trained by the U.S. Navy SEALs, U.S. Army, and Australian TRT, she stands toe-to-toe with her male counterparts, proving daily that gender equality is earned through sweat, intelligence, and tactical discipline.
A severe knee injury in 2021 ended her football playing days, but she pivoted to refereeing in August 2023. Inspired by Maria Akenese Salamasina, Samoa’s premier FIFA badge holder, Constable Fetalaiga now trains to earn her OFC and FIFA badges. “Maria is a pioneer who has shown us what is possible. I work hard because I wish to stand next to her on the international stage.”
In February 2026, during a trial with U.S. Military forces, Fetalaiga’s endurance was tested to the limit. Two of her TOS colleagues were nominated for the Nevada Competition in April. “I pushed to my very limits because I wanted to prove that women have the core strength to compete at the highest level.”
As a proud Christian woman, she credits her success to her Savior. “Challenge yourself to your absolute limit. Stay active, stay motivated, stay successful and most of all, stay humble. I am doing this to show my son and all of Samoa that through Him, nothing is impossible.”
Constable Fetalaiga’s story embodies the theme of International Women’s Day: celebrating women who break barriers and redefine strength. From balancing motherhood with elite tactical service, to pursuing international recognition in football refereeing, she represents the resilience and leadership of Samoan women in policing.
For the Samoa Police, her journey is more than personal triumph—it is a testament to the Service’s commitment to empowering women, fostering equality, and showing that courage and faith can carry officers from the frontline to the global stage.
On this International Women’s Day, Constable Salvation Ellen Fetalaiga stands as a symbol of faith, force, and the field—a reminder that women in uniform are not only protectors of peace but pioneers of possibility.
