The Samoa Police Community Engagement Unit today took part in a United Nations-funded project in partnership with the SVSG Samoa, aimed at combating gender-based violence and strengthening community awareness.
As part of this initiative, an awareness program was conducted at Anoamaa 2 District, bringing together community members to engage in open discussions on critical issues surrounding gender-based violence. The session focused on educating the community about the different forms of gender-based violence, its impact on individuals and families, and the importance of early reporting and intervention.
Officers from the Community Engagement Unit, alongside representatives from the SVSG Samoa, Ministry of Justice Courts and Administration, highlighted the various avenues available for protection and support, including police services, SVSG assistance, and other relevant referral pathways. Emphasis was placed on encouraging victims and witnesses to seek help and to speak out, reinforcing the message that gender-based violence is unacceptable and preventable.
The program also aims to empower community members with knowledge, promote shared responsibility, and foster a safer environment. Where women, children, and vulnerable individuals are protected and supported.
The Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services acknowledges the support of the United Nations and the continued partnership with the SVSG Samoa in delivering vital awareness programs that contribute to building safer, more informed communities across the country. #SamoaSaogalemu #BreakTheSilence #EndTheViolence
