Samoa Police Opens Basic Rural Operations Course for Tactical Operations Section
The Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services (SPPCS) officially opened the Basic Rural Operations Course on Monday 10th November 2025; for members of its Tactical Operations Section, reinforcing the Service’s commitment to developing highly skilled and capable officers dedicated to community safety.
In Deputy Commissioner Lafaitele Herbert Aati’s opening address, he extended a warm welcome to all participants, emphasizing that the course is both practical and challenging, designed to test officers physically, mentally, and as a team.
“This course aligns with the goal of the Samoa Police Service — to build officers who are competent, confident, and capable of protecting our communities safely and effectively,” he said.
The SPPCS acknowledged with gratitude the ongoing partnership with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), expressing appreciation to AFP Commander – Superintendent Simon Penny for his continued support in strengthening law enforcement cooperation between Samoa and Australia.
Police extended a special welcome to AFP instructors, acknowledging their professionalism, expertise, and personal sacrifice in supporting Samoa’s training efforts. Detective Sergeant Grant Smith and the Samoa Training Team were also thanked for coordinating and facilitating the course with dedication.
Participants of the Basic Rural Operations Course will undergo training in basic field craft, individual and team movement, reconnaissance, and operational planning, culminating in a comprehensive Full Mission Profile Exercise.
Emphasizing the importance of teamwork and decision-making, the speaker reminded officers that the course is not a competition of speed or endurance, but a test of intelligence, communication, and cohesion under pressure.
“Every challenge you face here builds the skills that keep you, your team, and your community safe,” he stated. “You are earning knowledge that actually matters.”
DC Lafaitele Herbert Aati encouraged participants to work hard, support one another, and remain resilient regardless of the conditions.
“Through training like this, we strengthen our Service and fulfill our goal — professional, capable, and confident officers serving and protecting Samoa with integrity.”
The event concluded with the official declaration of the Basic Rural Operations Course open
