Samoa Police Recognized in AFP Commissioner’s First National Address

Yesterday, the new Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Krissy Barrett, delivered her first major public address at the National Press Club in Canberra, outlining her priorities for the AFP and Australia’s security partnerships across the globe.
In her speech, Commissioner Barrett highlighted Samoa as a key regional partner in strengthening cyber resilience and law enforcement cooperation across the Pacific. She acknowledged the establishment of the Samoa Police Cybercrime Unit, supported through the AFP’s partnership and the Cyber Safety Pasifika program, which now enables Samoa Police to prevent, detect, and investigate cybercrimes through new digital forensic capabilities.
“In response, through our police partnership and Cyber Safety Pasifika program, we supported Samoa Police Service to establish a dedicated Cybercrime Unit. Samoa’s Cybercrime Unit will use new digital forensic capabilities, and will prevent, detect, and investigate cybercrimes by working with local and international partners.”
This recognition reflects the strong collaboration between the AFP and the Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services, and reaffirms Samoa’s growing role in enhancing cyber safety and digital security across the Pacific region.
