CID & SORT Strengthens Investigative Capability
Since 7 April 2026, the SPPCS Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Sex Offenders Registration Team (SORT) have been conducting daily on-the-job training sessions aimed at strengthening investigative capability and improving daily operations across the Division.
The program is led by Acting Officer in Charge, Detective Superintendent Lefaoalii Vaaufiao Aldora Mamaia as part of ongoing efforts to build capacity, enhance coordination and ensure consistent investigative practices in support of improved service delivery to the public.
Each morning, officers take part in presentations focused on Proceeds of Crime and the various CID squads including the Sexual Crimes Squad, SORT, Homicide, Fraud, Break Squad and LTC Squad. These sessions are designed to strengthen understanding of each squad’s role and improve coordination and collaboration in the management of complex investigations
The initiative also includes written assessments and team-building activities to reinforce learning and ensure investigative standards are consistently applied in daily operations.
Interactive ice-breaker activities were also held during the sessions, with prizes provided by the Acting OIC, while support was also received from New Zealand Police Senior Sergeant Gavin Briggs, reflecting ongoing professional cooperation between agencies.
Acting OIC CID and SORT said she is proud of the staff for their commitment and engagement during the training sessions, noting that officers are beginning to implement positive changes in their daily work. She added that this progress is strengthening operational capability within the Division and ultimately enhancing the quality of investigations and service delivery to the public.
