SPPCS Welcomes Nevada National Guard for Third Law Enforcement, Corrections & Mental Health SMEE
Monday, 10 March 2025 – The Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS) officially welcomed the Nevada National Guard for the third engagement of the Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Mental Health Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) at the Samoa Police Training Academy this morning.
Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the significance of this partnership and the ongoing commitment to strengthening the professional capacity of SPPCS personnel.
A total of 32 officers will participate in this week’s training, focusing on key areas such as basic leadership, cell extraction, restraining techniques, stress management, and mental health. These specialized skills are essential in ensuring that corrections officers are equipped to handle the complexities of their roles in high-pressure environments.
This initiative builds upon the first training held in September 2024, which saw 30 officers participate. With approximately 90 officers still to be trained, the SMEE remains a vital part of SPPCS’s goal to upskill its workforce with the expertise and knowledge shared through this collaboration.
Commissioner Auapa’au expressed his gratitude to the Nevada National Guard for their unwavering support, acknowledging the valuable exchange of experience and innovative practices that continue to strengthen both institutions. He reaffirmed SPPCS’s commitment to deepening this relationship, recognizing the long-term benefits of this partnership.
“The future is bright, and through our combined efforts, we can achieve far more than we could individually,” Commissioner Auapa’au stated.
SPPCS extends its appreciation to the Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Daniel Tarapacki, and the team from the American Embassy for their support in this initiative. The organization looks forward to a productive and successful week of learning and collaboration.
