A POLICE OFFICER INJURED WHEN RESPONDING TO A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASE

A police officer from Faleata Outpost is currently at the Motootua Hospital receiving treatments for a gun shot wound to his neck sustained when he was shot whilst attending a call of Domestic Violence at Siusega around 2pm this afternoon. Two other officers were able to take cover.

The suspect later barricaded himself and the victim inside his home at Siusega where the incident occurred.

Police were deployed to Siusega and were able to deescalate and negotiate with the suspect who later gave himself up at around 7.30pm without any further casualties. The suspect is now under police custody for questioning Samoa Police, Prisons and Correction (‘SPPCS’) wishes to acknowledge the support of the community for taking heed of police directions around Siusega whilst we were dealing with the matter. We also acknowledge the work of language translators as we tried to deescalate the situation.

The officer will undergo surgery tomorrow and is in stable conditions.
