ANNUAL FIAFIA DAY CELEBRATED AT TANUMALALA PRISON
The Tanumalala Prison came alive today with vibrant performances of song and dance during its Annual Fiafia Day celebration. The event, a longstanding tradition within the Samoa Police, Prisons, and Corrections Services (SPPCS), highlights the rehabilitation efforts within Samoa’s correctional facilities and showcases the talents of those in custody.
Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo, Deputy Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga, members of the SPPCS, family members of the inmates, and key stakeholders joined the celebration, reflecting the collective commitment to fostering positivity and personal growth among prisoners.
The Fiafia Day program included cultural performances, contemporary dances, and heartfelt songs performed by the inmates, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity. Family members in attendance provided encouragement and support, further strengthening the inmates’ emotional connections and motivation to embrace positive change.
The SPPCS views the Fiafia Day celebration as a vital part of its rehabilitation strategy, emphasizing the importance of creative expression, emotional well-being, and family engagement in preparing inmates for reintegration into society. Such events play a crucial role in promoting harmony and understanding between correctional staff, prisoners, their families, and community partners.
This year’s event was supported by SPPCS personnel and partners who continue to champion programs that contribute to the rehabilitation and development of those in custody. The success of Fiafia Day underscores the SPPCS’s ongoing efforts to promote a more constructive correctional environment
