Samoa Police Commissioner Attends INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow
Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo of the Samoa Police, Prisons, and Corrections Services (SPPCS) is representing Samoa at the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, held from 4–7 November in Glasgow, United Kingdom. This annual assembly, the highest governing body of INTERPOL, convenes senior law enforcement representatives from 196 member countries to discuss international strategies, policies, and cooperative efforts in combating transnational crime.
The assembly was officially opened by Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who underscored the urgent need for enhanced global police cooperation to address evolving threats from organized crime and other international security challenges. This year’s assembly gathers nearly 1,000 participants, including senior law enforcement officials, ministers, and experts, making it one of the largest global gatherings of law enforcement leaders.
During the assembly, representatives will review INTERPOL’s strategic direction, vote on key policy measures, and elect a new Secretary General. Valdecy Urquiza of Brazil, the nominee of INTERPOL’s Executive Committee, has been proposed for the role, reflecting a commitment to maintaining the organization’s effectiveness and leadership in advancing international policing.
The SPPCS is proud to engage in the INTERPOL General Assembly, reaffirming Samoa’s commitment to international collaboration in law enforcement. This participation strengthens Samoa’s ability to address global threats that have a local impact, such as organized crime, human trafficking, and cybercrime, all of which are increasingly prevalent across international borders. Samoa’s involvement in INTERPOL allows the SPPCS to access cutting-edge intelligence, advanced policing methods, and enhanced cooperation frameworks, which are instrumental in safeguarding Samoan communities.
For Samoa, a nation with strong cultural values and close-knit communities, the ability to combat international crime and maintain public safety aligns with SPPCS’s mission to protect and serve. INTERPOL’s tools and resources, including access to shared databases, support SPPCS in investigating and resolving transnational crime cases and identifying potential threats.
As SPPCS Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo’s attendance at this summit highlights Samoa’s proactive stance in addressing crime at both national and global levels. Through continued engagement with INTERPOL, SPPCS remains committed to enhancing its law enforcement capabilities, ensuring Samoa remains secure and resilient in an increasingly interconnected world.
