113 New Zealand Police Officers Arrive in Samoa to Assist with CHOGM

Apia, Samoa – Today, Thursday, 17 October 2024, the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services (SPPCS) welcomed the arrival of 113 New Zealand Police officers. This contingent of officers has been deployed to Samoa to provide additional support for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to take place next week.
The significant presence of these officers underscores the importance of ensuring a smooth and secure environment for one of the most prestigious international events ever hosted by Samoa. Their expertise and resources will be invaluable in augmenting the operational capacity of the SPPCS during this high-profile event.
CHOGM will see the arrival of dignitaries, heads of state, and government officials from across the Commonwealth, requiring a heightened level of security and coordination. In addition to ensuring public safety, the officers will assist in crowd management, traffic control, and the protection of visiting VIPs.
The deployment of the New Zealand Police officers is part of a long-standing partnership between the New Zealand Police and SPPCS, which has been strengthened through numerous training programs, joint exercises, and shared commitments to the Pacific region’s safety and security.
In preparation for CHOGM, SPPCS has been conducting a series of training exercises, including Close Personal Protection (CPP) and Maritime Patrols, to ensure all officers are well-prepared to handle the range of security requirements. The addition of the New Zealand contingent will greatly bolster these efforts.
SPPCS is committed to ensuring that CHOGM 2024 is conducted in a safe, secure, and successful manner, and the support of international partners such as New Zealand is critical in achieving this goal.
The New Zealand officers will remain in Samoa for the duration of the CHOGM event and will work closely with SPPCS to ensure the highest standards of security and professionalism are maintained throughout.
