SPWAN President Attends 20th Anniversary of PICP WAN in Tonga
Detective Superintendent Aldora Mamaia, President of the Samoa Police Women Advisory Network (SPWAN), represented the Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS) at the Pacific Island Chief of Police Women’s Advisory Network (PICP WAN) conference held in Tonga from 1st to 3rd September 2024.
This year’s conference commemorated the 20th anniversary of PICP WAN, which was first convened in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, in 2004. For two decades, PICP WAN has played a vital role in supporting the development, leadership, and contributions of women in policing across the Pacific region. The 2024 conference gathered police leaders from across the Pacific to discuss the advancement of gender equality within law enforcement.
Detective Superintendent Mamaia, in her capacity as SPWAN president, continues to support the empowerment of women within the SPPCS. Her participation in this milestone event highlighted the ongoing commitment of Samoa to fostering leadership, collaboration, and professional development for women in law enforcement.
The conference featured discussions on leadership growth, challenges faced by women officers, and strategies to strengthen women’s roles in policing across the Pacific. Delegates also reflected on the progress made over the past 20 years while identifying priorities for future initiatives to promote gender equity within their respective police forces.
