Groundbreaking of Maritime Tuasivi Office. Strengthening Maritime Security in Samoa
Earlier today, Monday 16 June 2025, Minister of Police, Honorable Faualo Harry Jeffrey Schuster, Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency Will Robinson, Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo, and members of the Samoa Police, Prisons and Correction Services (SPPCS) attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Maritime Tuasivi Office.
The ceremony was led by Reverend Elder Tesimeta Afamasaga. In their keynote addresses, both the Minister and the High Commissioner highlighted the importance of strong partnerships in keeping Samoa and the Pacific region safe.
The new Maritime Tuasivi Office will enhance police maritime response capabilities, supporting both search and rescue operations and ongoing maritime surveillance of Samoa’s waters.
The facility will include accommodation, office and training space, an undercover area for small boats, a gymnasium, and a workshop. Cabella Construction has been contracted for the 5-month project, which is scheduled for completion in November 2025.
Minister Faualo expressed his gratitude to the people of Australia, through High Commissioner Robinson, for funding the project. Planning began in 2023, with funding approved through the Australian Defence.
Guided by the mantra, “What is good for Upolu is good for Savai’i,” SPPCS acknowledges the continued support of partners such as the Australian Defence and the Australian Federal Police in building the capacity and capability of its members.
Working together for a safer Samoa.
