Samoa and Tonga Introduction to Police Negotiation Course

Yesterday, we officially closed the Samoa and Tonga Introduction to Police Negotiation Course — the first of its kind jointly conducted between our two Pacific nations, made possible through the support of the Australian Federal Police (AFP)
This milestone marks not only the strengthening of our professional policing skills but also the deepening of friendship and cooperation between the Samoa Police Service and the Tonga Police.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners, the Australian Federal Police, for their continued commitment to developing policing capability across the Pacific region.
Special thanks to Commander Detective Superintendent Simon Penny, and our exceptional instructors Federal Agent Emma Ireland and Federal Agent Christie-Lee Poulson for their time, expertise, and professionalism throughout this course.
To our brothers and sisters from Tonga Police — Inspector Malani Aho and team — Malo Aupito and Congratulations! Your participation and spirit have made this course a true success and strengthened the bonds of Pacific partnership.
This week’s training reminded us that negotiation is not just about words — it’s about connection, empathy, and courage. Our participants have been equipped to bring calm into chaos, resolve conflict with wisdom, and preserve life through restraint and understanding.
Congratulations and Malo Lava — To all participants on completing this international training!
As you return to your duties, remember that negotiation begins with listening, whether in the field, the community, or even within your own teams.
And to our Tongan colleagues — know that Samoa stands ready to continue working alongside you in the spirit of Pacific policing unity. Together, we are stronger.
As we close this historic course, we are reminded that while we may come from different islands, we share one ocean, one purpose, and one Pacific policing family. 🌺🌊
