Samoa-Australia Police Partnership Marks 15th Anniversary with Inauguration of Samoa Police Operation Centre & Signing of the AFP-Samoa Technical Partnership.

In a momentous celebration marking the 15th year anniversary of the Samoa-Australia Police Partnership (SAPP), Samoa Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo and Australian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Nigel Ryan APM officiated the grand opening of the Samoa Police Operation Centre (S-POC) earlier today. The ceremony, held at the SPPCS Headquarter, was graced by esteemed guests, including H.E. Australian High Commissioner Will Robinson, delegations from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), New Zealand Police, distinguished members of the SAPP and SPPCS Executive & Senior Management.

The Samoa Police Operation Centre (S-POC) stands as a testament to the enduring collaboration between Samoa and Australia, providing a pivotal hub for monitoring operations, particularly as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) approaches in October. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including CCTV cameras strategically positioned throughout Apia, the S-POC promises to bolster law enforcement efforts and enhance public safety across the region.

The inauguration of the S-POC marks just one facet of the comprehensive initiatives undertaken through the Samoa-Australia Police Partnership (SAPP). Alongside the establishment of the S-POC, the partnership has facilitated the implementation of the Emergency Radio Network (ERN) and the installation of CCTV cameras across Apia. These transformative projects, collectively estimated at 12 million Samoan Tala (equivalent to 6.5 million Australian dollars), underscore the commitment of both nations to fostering security and resilience within Samoa and its surrounding communities.

Central to today’s commemorative events was the formal signing of the Australian Federal Police (AFP)-Samoa Police Technical Partnership, further solidifying the enduring bonds between the two nations. Attendees were privy to insightful remarks from H.E. Australian High Commissioner Will Robinson, who reflected on the longstanding success of the SAPP and its profound impact on bilateral relations.

In his address, H.E. Will Robinson lauded the collaborative efforts of the Samoa-Australia Police Partnership, emphasizing the enduring nature of the friendship between the Samoa Police and their Australian counterparts. He underscored the significance of the partnership in promoting regional security and stability, highlighting its role as a beacon of cooperation and mutual respect.

As Samoa and Australia stand poised to embark on a new chapter of collaboration, the inauguration of the Samoa Police Operation Centre and the formalization of the AFP-Samoa Police Technical Partnership serve as poignant milestones in a journey marked by shared values and a commitment to excellence in law enforcement. Together, these initiatives pave the way for a safer, more secure future for all citizens of Samoa and the broader Pacific region.
